HSPT

The HSPT® (High School Placement Test) is administered to 8th graders for placement in the 9th grade. The test is used by Catholic high schools to evaluate applicants for admission. The HSPT® exam contains 5 sections: verbal skills, quantitative skills, reading comprehension, mathematics, and language (English grammar). The exam is 2 hours and 30 minutes, including breaks, and includes 298 multiple-choice questions. It is recommended that the HSPT® should only be taken once by each student. Under extenuating circumstances, a school may decide to allow a student to retest. However, this should be dealt with by individual schools or dioceses on a case by case basis.

Our HSPT® prep class is offered as either a private, semi-private, or small group class. We believe for small group classes that the magic number of students is no more than 5. We call this the “Focused Five” class approach. We believe that the “Focused Five” approach allows for a tutor to give as much attention as possible to each student because beyond 5 students, the law of diminishing returns begins to set it.

The HSPT®is generally offered in mid-January of each school year. Some schools may offer it in late fall as well. For this reason, we start our prep classes in August and run them through December/January. Because we individualize all of our prep courses, we can build in flexibility for your start and end date.
